So users can have just about all the polys they want to use when making one static picture from the content. It will be up to you and your system as to whether you can run daz3d characters in video renders at 24, 30 or 60 FPS (frames per second), because Daz3d characters are basically used as one image. You may get away without decimating them, however I would run the decimate tool to check out the poly counts for the character and everything you plan to go with it into Iclone. Decimate in Daz3d, because it is Daz3d tool. Does anyone have answers to my questions? I really want to start working on my project ASAP. And I know Daz is a very mature and superior product. I don't want to downgrade the models in order to use in iClone. I asked if I can get away without decimating them.

I didn't ask if I should decimate the Daz product before import. but you didn't answer any of my questions. In the hands of someone who knows what he is doing, excelent results can be uptained. It may not have the "cleanness" of DAZ, but I have never found that very appealing.

Personally, I like the new iClone 7 renderer and a big improvement over IC6. If you like the look of the DAZ render, it might be more practical to render in DAZ. As to ray-trace rendering, iClone has a plugin for Indigo, but that's not suitable for animation due to inadequate data management.

However, there is a way to patch the application so that more RAM is available (up to 3.5 GB). The bottleneck as far as importing goes is currently 3DXchange, which is still 32-bit. iClone Due to the fact there is something wrong with DAZ FBX import, I believe animations need to be imported as BVH, so there is not point in having fancy characters in iClone. If your are NOT rendering in iClone, only animating, you could also consider using lower-poly proxies in iClone. I have found that DAZ hair in particualr has enormous amounts of polys, so any reduction would best come from there and be easier than applying decimation to the body. Also, if the character has accessories such as weapons, it is better to export them separately. If you have a scene within iClone with a few characters you probably wouldn't need to decimate them. I'm biased towards iClone, so be forwarned. "Superior" is obviously a matter of opinion, but that's not the subject of this thread.

Daz3d is a very mature application and has a huge library of clothing, hair, and all manner of content and tools to produce very high quality character presents. Your clothing choices will be more limited for your CC characters, than Daz3d. Characters created in the CC when finished wiill work well with Iclone produced videos. Character building in Iclone is not easy as one might think, but it isn't overly burdensome.

Some artists don't rig their characters as well as they should and you will spend alot of time tweaking them, unless you are an absolute pro exporter. The export from Daz3d and other applications is not always and easy task. I would suggest you try a couple previz scenes with both Daz3d and CC characters. The substance tools can be very valuable for skins, colors, textuers, etc. The CC is capable of producing much better quality of characters than in the past.
